Annie sits alone on the bench. She fidgets with the zippers on her backpack and stares blindly at the passing cars, working something out in her head. Several Hispanic women approach the bus stop, they get in the shade beside Annie and unload their bags from the 99cent store around their feet. Their children play tag up and down the sidewalk. A white Toyota Camry pulls up in front of the bus stop and drops off a black woman in her forties. She climbs out of the car decked out in purple coolots, purple visor, lavender bejeweled t-shirt and white reeboks with purple laces. Annie watches her. The woman waves the car goodbye and immediately leans over the curb, searching on-coming traffic for a sign of the bus. She waddles over to some shade and begins clicking her tongue impatiently and clutching at her giant white pleather purse. Suddenly Annie is on her feet. She digs through her backpack as she walks down the street, away from the bus stop.
Annie crosses through the apartment complex parking lot, a sea of trash and blacktop baking under her converse. She makes her way towards a major street up ahead, occasionally stroking her hair where the sun is trying to bore its way through. Her eyes are fixed on a bus stop a half a block away. She watches the people stir and gather their belongings. She notices a bus in the distance, coming down the street. It is far enough away that Annie could starting jogging and most likely beat it to the stop. But Annie doesn't speed up. She continues to walk and watch the bus' progress. It eventually pulls up, pauses to let a few people off and picks up the rest. Then it continues on its way, passing Annie as she walk up the sidewalk.

Annie, now in beat up levis and the soft grey tee, exits the apartment and locks it up. She swings on her backpack as she heads down the hallway. It is reminiscent of a cheap old hotel, the floor covered in a thin burgundy colored carpet, walls a dingy cream, and lights a dim florescent. Annie walks to the elevator at the end of the hall. She pushes the down button and waits.
