The relatively large room is packed with local industrial workers, many of whom are immigrants and are talking amongst one another at a high volume. There are musicians playing rowdy folk songs and most patrons are sipping or gorging themselves on beer and spirits. One man, ALBERT PARSONS, enters the saloon from the rear and makes his way to a small platform in front of the crowd. A hush falls over the room.
A beat passes.
ALBERT'S delight quickly shifts to dubiousness.
PARSONS takes a swig from the beer stein resting on a stool next to his lectern.
