Ryan was diagnosed with schizophrenia at a young age, after repeatedly seeing strange persons. His medication made the hallucinations go away. After a while the pills started to lose their effect. Then Mr. Dark showed up and tried to convince him that it was all real and that he needed to prepare for the destruction that was to come. He showed him that when Ryan focused really hard, he could see two worlds overlapping each other. The parallel world was war torn and savage in nature. Mr. Dark told him that if he didn't save their world, both would be torn apart.
