They both return to reading. Stewart enters and Carl and Sheryl do not notice him until he sits down in the living room chair.

Carl and Sheryl are sitting on the couch. Carl is reading the newspaper and Sheryl is reading a magazine with a headline on the cover relating on how to deal with your child. Stewart enters, crosses to the kitchen (offstage) and reenters with a soda without acknowledging Carl or Sheryl. Carl puts down his newspaper.

Simon sits on his floor, head on his knees. Simon stands up, paces, and shoves books and papers off his bed in anger where he has apparently been doing homework. He then sits back down. He picks up one of the books from the floor and tries to read it to distract himself but can't focus on it and gives up. He just sits in silence. Pause
