EXT. Ancient Athens, greece — night

rvigueras - on 08/28/2008

Shot of Ancient Athens burning. Demons of various sorts run about the city screeching. ACHERON, only a sinister shadow, can be seen standing atop the Parthenon overseeing the destruction.

drw13 - on 08/28/2008 3 versions.

Julius(V.O.)

Hades' son, Acheron, has unleashed his power on the entirety of Europe, and now has his sights set on Egypt...

EXT. Just west of Akhetaten, Egypt — Day

rvigueras - on 08/28/2008

ALEC ARNOLD,leads an army of Egyptian soldier towards the city of Akhetaten. Alec is an Egyptian military leader from GIZA. He stands five feet six inches tall, and has a rather light tone in his skin for a native Egyptian. He wears a white wrap around his torso, and a blue belt that has a large piece coming out of the front of it to protect his groin. A thick hide colored with a teal dye, and bloodstains protects his upper body. On his head was a large misshapen cylindrical helm. Beside him stands SAYID NOUR, a former thief who Alec caught stealing and gave a second chance. He is a less than impressive man who wears what looks like beggar's rags with a belt around them to hold it closed.

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008 2 versions.

ALEC

Directly west, in the center of Akhetaten, is the home of the Head Official. If we want to take the town alive, we'll have to storm his home.

drw13 - on 08/28/2008 2 versions.

As the army nears the town. Alec sets in motion the plan thought up the night prior.

drw13 - on 08/28/2008

Alec (CONT'D)

(Looking Backward) Spearman, Charge!

drw13 - on 08/28/2008

The spearman run across the desert with their spears completely horizontal charging forward yelling as they attack. Once at the entrance to the town they are met by a volley of arrows, killing nearly every spearman.

drw13 - on 08/28/2008

Alec (CONT'D)

(with his sword held high)Hurry men! Before they have a chance to fire again. Breech the city walls, and bring this silly battle to an end!

drw13 - on 08/28/2008 2 versions.

Alec and Sayid charge in with the chariots. Many chariots race forward towards the Akhetaten city entrance.

drw13 - on 08/28/2008 2 versions.

SAYID

They should be sending another volley soon, duck down!

MikeGoode - on 08/28/2008 2 versions.

Several chariot men fall in this volley, but several hundred make it into the city. They keep riding to the center of town, passing market stands, gardens under a bridge, but no people can be seen. They finally reach the official’s home where Alec, Sayid, and ten other men prepare to knock down the door.

drw13 - on 08/28/2008 2 versions.

Alec

(ready for battle) Hurry, we must reach the main chamber upstairs before any men show up!

drw13 - on 08/28/2008

Alec and the other men rush up the several flights of large stairs and smash through the large door to find no one inside.

drw13 - on 08/28/2008 2 versions.

SAYID

Somethings not right. Where are all the soldiers?

MikeGoode - on 08/28/2008 2 versions.

Alec

The official, he should be here!

drw13 - on 08/28/2008

Sayid

Outside! What's all that noise?

drw13 - on 08/28/2008

Sayid and Alec rush to the nearby window to see the men left outside being ambushed by the citizens of Akhetaten.

drw13 - on 08/28/2008

Alec

(angered) Hurry back down the stairs, they need help. I am going to go a faster route.

drw13 - on 08/28/2008

Before Sayid could even question what he meant, Alec had leapt out the window, landing on the awning below.

drw13 - on 08/28/2008

Alec (CONT'D)

You treacherous bastards! How dare you fight so dishonorably!

drw13 - on 08/28/2008

Alec lunges into battle fighting anyone who does not wear the Pharaoh's colors. He fights for what seems like an eternity until he is the only man left surrounded by the Akhetaten soldiers. As he kneels down, realizing he stands no chance the AKHETATEN LEADER approaches him.

drw13 - on 08/28/2008 2 versions.

AKHETATEN Leader

Stand still men! We will not kill you, scum. No, instead I will strip you of you pride and ensure that you won't see battle again.

drw13 - on 08/28/2008 2 versions.

The Akhetaten men pin Alec down as the leader draws a dagger.

MikeGoode - on 08/28/2008

ALEC

(Shouting over everone) I've already surrendered to you, this isn't necessary.

MikeGoode - on 08/28/2008

The Leader moved in towards Alec's eye with his dagger, and dug in. He pulled his hand away with Alec's left eye, holding it for the cheering crowd to see.

MikeGoode - on 08/28/2008

AKHETATEN LEADER

Quiet down, we aren't done with this one yet.

MikeGoode - on 08/28/2008

The Leader readied himself to take Alec's right eye. The cheering of the crowd was so loud that he was unable to hear the hoof beats of chariots heading their way.

MikeGoode - on 08/28/2008

Sayid

Alec!

drw13 - on 08/28/2008

Sayid and the other ten men mowed through the crowd. Without stopping, Sayid grabbed the back of Alec's vest and yanked him into his chariot.

drw13 - on 08/28/2008

SAYID (CONT'D)

Alec your eye! What happened to your eye?

drw13 - on 08/28/2008 2 versions.

Alec (In numbing pain)

Arghhhh! He...he...he cut it out!

drw13 - on 08/28/2008 3 versions.

Holding onto Alec, Sayid raced back towards Giza. Mowing down any men who stood in the way.

drw13 - on 08/28/2008 2 versions.

rvigueras - on 08/28/2008 4 versions.

Doctor

Everything looks fine here, I will be back by the end of the week for another follow up.

rvigueras - on 08/28/2008

Sayid

Has all the bleeding stopped Doctor?

rvigueras - on 08/28/2008

Doctor

Yes, he will only have to wear this patch from now on...

rvigueras - on 08/28/2008

The Doctor hands an eye patch to Sayid.

rvigueras - on 08/28/2008

Doctor (cont'd)

This patch holds some herbs in it so his eye will remain uninfected, and help it to heal faster.

rvigueras - on 08/28/2008

Sayid

Alright doctor I will make sure this is set on him properly. Is there anything else?

rvigueras - on 08/28/2008

Doctor

(Aside) It is hard for me to see him like this. He has been an old friend of mine, I have always been there for him helping to heal all his battle wounds. But this mental downfall he has contracted is not something I can fix. Be good to him friend, he needs someone right now.

rvigueras - on 08/28/2008

Sayid

(Aside) I plan on being here for him Doc, the Gods know he has been there for me.

rvigueras - on 08/28/2008

The Doctor leaves, and Sayid goes over to the side of the bed where Alec lays asleep. He is fitting the eye patch on Alec's head.

rvigueras - on 08/28/2008

By a market stand where a busy KEEPER is tending to the other CUSTOMERs. Sayid stands next to it where he is seemingly planning grand theft fruit.

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008 5 versions.

Keeper

(Facing away from Sayid) It's ten deben for those watermelons, five for the mangoes, four for the oranges...

drw13 - on 08/29/2008 3 versions.

Customer

And how much is it for the grapes?

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008

Keeper

3 deben.

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008

Sayid inches his way closer to the fruits. reaching his hand out for an apple.

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008

Customer

And the pears? How much are those?

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008

Sayid's arm is grabbed stopping him from actually picking up the pear.

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008

Alec

(Gripping Sayid's arm) What do you think you are doing?

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008

Sayid

(Nervous) I...I...I...I have been very hungry for days now sir, and I have no money to survive.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008 3 versions.

Alec

You know the penalty for being caught stealing, give me your other hand.

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008

Sayid

(Pleading) Please, please don't take my hands they are the only things that keep me alive.

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008 2 versions.

Alec

The law is the law, and what Pharaoh proclaims is the law.

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008

Alec grabs Sayid's other arm, dragging him into a corner away from the public. The citizens did not think anything of it because it was a common occurrence.

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008

Sayid

Why are you dragging me over here?

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008

Alec

Would you be quiet and stay still. I'm letting you go. And take this apple, don't let me catch you stealing again.

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008

Sayid

(Puzzled) Why are you doing this? You could be stripped of your royal duties.

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008

Alec

I am tired of seeing people like you walking around half starved and handless.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008 2 versions.

Sayid

May I know the name of the man who spared me sir?

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008

Alec

My name is Alec.

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008

Sayid

I am Sayid, and may I ask you if i may repay your kindness by remaining by your side.

Present Day

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

INT. Alec's House — Day

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Alec is resting in his home. Sayid bursts through entryway.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Sayid

(out of breath) Hey Alec. How's the eye?

drw13 - on 08/29/2008 4 versions.

Alec glances over at Sayid showing him the cavity where his eye once lay, then rolls over away from Sayid.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Sayid (CONT'D)

The pharaoh wishes to speak with you, he said it was urgent.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Alec

(confused) What? why would he want to see me? I am no good to him anymore. Just look at me.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008 2 versions.

Alec rises slowly out of bed and puts the patch over the injury on his left eye. He struggles to stand up.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Alec (CONT'D)

(confused and depressed) Sayid, why does the Pharaoh beckon me?

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Sayid

I do not know Alec. He would not tell anyone.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Alec

...He probably means to remove me from my position...What good am I to him anymore, I am no better than a slave.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Sayid

Why must you be so down on yourself? I have seen you fight and even with only one eye you are better than anyone else in Egypt.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Sayid waits impatiently as Alec gets dressed and shambles towards the entryway. Sayid tries to be increasingly upbeat and enthusiastic in an effort to cheer up his friend as they make their way to the palace.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

INT. Pharaoh's Palace in the center of Giza — Day

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Alec and Sayid enter the palace's threshold where a figure is waiting for him. It is JULIUS, Alec’s mentor from his childhood. He was once a Greek scholar. He wears a white toga with simple ornamentation for trying to hide the fact that he is not Egyptian.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008 5 versions.

ALEC

(suprised) Julius! I haven't known you to be outside your study in months.

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008 5 versions.

Julius

Ah, Alec! How's the eye?

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008 3 versions.

Alec

It's been healing quickly. Did the Pharaoh call upon you as well?

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

Julius

No, I was the one who came here to speak with the Pharaoh.

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008

Alec

(confused) And why was I called here?

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

Julius

We'll speak about that when we're in private in the throne room.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

GUARDS approach the men.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008 2 versions.

Guard #1

How is your eye Alec?

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Alec

(Frustrated) It is well, may I see the Pharaoh?

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Guard #2

Yes, he will see you now.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008 3 versions.

INT. Pharaoh's Throne room in the center of giza — day

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

The three men cross the Throne Room's threshold revealing a concerned PHARAOH standing in the center of the room. He is quite old, appearing to be in his 60's.He is dressed in shimmering gold with jewels that are heavy and rather bulky wear. He has on a tunic made of linen with fringes hanging about the legs and loose white woollen cloaks over them. Upon his head is a wig that contains ornamental decorations. There are holes in the roof of the room allowing sunlight to shine down and reflect off the golden figure.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008 7 versions.

Pharaoh

Alec, it's good to see you're alright. How's the eye?

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

Alec

I have been resting well your highness and it has healed well

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

PHARAOH

That is good to hear.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

Alex notices the Pharaoh grow concerned again.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

pharaoh (CONT'D)

The reason I called you two here is because there is a grave threat to Egypt. A dark enemy has spread across the nations of Europe. Our friend, Julius has revealed the face of this enemy.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

Julius

(stepping forward) Acheron, the son of the God, Hades, has destroyed much of Europe, including my homeland of Greece. Egypt will be next.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

PHARAOH

That is precisely why I have called you here Alec, even without your eye you are still my best Chief. Will you take up arms with your fellow brethren and lead them into war with this menace?

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

ALEC

(stern) No. I have been stripped of all my dignity sire, and with this missing eye I will not be able to fight as I once did. I am no longer a Warrior.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

SAYID

This is our homeland, Alec. Nobody is better suited to lead us in battle than you.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

ALEC

(frustrated)I was suited to lead. Now I'm just a liability. Any man on the street would be better off in battle than I would. How would we kill a descendant of a god anyway?

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

Julius

(speaking up) There has to be a way. I will study the subject until I know how. In the mean time, we need someone to defend Giza.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

Alec

Then you will have to find someone else. You called the wrong man here.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

PHARAOH

(disappointed) If that is your wish, you have earned your rest.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

Alec leaves the throne room. Leaving the other three men to talk.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Pharaoh (CONT'D)

We will need to buy some time for Julius to figure out a way to defeat this "god". Sayid go with another Chief to Alexandria, we must stall them at the shores, it is our best shot.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

INT. Alec's house Giza, Egypt — midday

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008 2 versions.

Alec is on his bed staring at the ceiling when a familiar figure appears.

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008

Alec

Who's there?

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008

Sayid

It is me, I came here to tell you that we are putting together a small militia. We have received word that Acheron's forces have attacked Alexandria.

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008

Alec

And why have you come to tell me this? I am not going. I just want to rest...leave me be.

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008

Sayid

Is there no way at all I can change your mind? Your experience alone puts you ahead of any other military man i know.

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008

Alec

I'm sorry my friend, but I just cannot do it my place is now here. Forever locked in my room.

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008

Sayid

If this is how you truly feel. I wanted to thank you for all that you've done for me. Ya know...in case I do not come back.

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008

Alec

Best of luck to you...

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008

Sayid marches out of the military barracks with a few hundred men on their way to Alexandria. Alec is watching from afar.

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008 3 versions.

5 days later

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008

INT. Alec's House giza, egypt — night

drw13 - on 08/29/2008 2 versions.

There is a commotion at the northern walls of the town. Alec looks up from his bed to see Sayid and only a handful of the militia have returned from Alexandria. All the men are badly wounded.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Julius

They all fought with their all their hearts.

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008

Alec turns around startled at Julius' voice.

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008

Alec

(Startled) How long have you been there?

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008

Julius

(Ignoring what Alec asked) They were no match for Acheron's forces, but in the end they were not able to take control of Alexandria.

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008

Alec

What of Sayid, is he alright?

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008 2 versions.

Julius

He is fine, he fought well, escaped the battle with with some lacerations. But he was one of the lucky ones.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008 2 versions.

Alec

That is good to hear. I was worried about him. To think my friend a common thief was able to gain the courage to go out and fight a battle he had no idea whether or not he would win.

rvigueras - on 08/29/2008 2 versions.

Julius

It was a very brave thing those young men did. Do you see now that we must go on this journey? It is Egypt, no the whole world's only chance to survive this onslaught of terror and destruction.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008 2 versions.

Alec

So you found a way to defeat him then?

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Julius

Yes we must travel to where this all started, Athens. Inside the Temple of Athena, a magical object lies. Using this object we will be able to defeat Acheron and end this.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008 3 versions.

Sayid enters through the doorway.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Julius (CONT'D)

I’ve already arranged for a ship to take us, and a group of a hundred or so soldiers there by morning.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Sayid

So Alec came to his senses? Well count me in. I will not be left behind when we save the world.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Alec

What? You are still injured. You will stay until you heal, that is an order.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Sayid

(angered)What!? No I am coming even if I have to get my own ship.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Alec

No...

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Julius

(Interrupting) We could use his "special talents" should we get into any tricky situations.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Alec

(confused) What? How do you know about that?

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Julius

I know more than you think. I am not just some old scholar. Now, no more arguing everyone get prepared we leave for Alexandria in the morning.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

EXT. In the sands on the way to Alexandria — Day

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Alec

Why are we going to Alexandria? Is this not where Acheron is?

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Julius

No, Acheron has no desire to occupy little towns. His men will have moved on by now, we should be safe.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

As the army treks across the blazing sands, they see smoke billowing into the sky. Alexandria lay in ruins, Acheron left few buildings standing.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008 2 versions.

EXT. The ruins of Alexandria — Day

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Alec and company walk through what use to be a vibrant port town. There were still flames that even after several days did not extinguish. Few people were still in the town, many had ran or moved on to a different place. The town look like Hell itself.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008 2 versions.

Alec

What happened? This town used to be so lively and carefree. Now it is nothing more than ashes and rubble. What monsters could do something like this?

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Julius

This was nothing but a hindrance to them. Wait until you see what they have done to a town they wish to keep, like Athens.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Sayid

What monsters....We will make them pay for this though, right Alec?

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Alec

Of course we will.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Alec, Sayid, and Julius approach the docks and see a SHIP CAPTAIN standing in front of the boarding plank.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Ship Captain

Ah, so this be the infamous Chief Deputy Alec. How's the eye, my boy?

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Alec growing increasingly frustrated about being asked the condition of his eye, does nothing but grumble to the old captain.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Julius

Time is a luxury we do not have. We shall exchange pleasantries and stories once we are underway if you don't mind.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Ship Captain

Fine, yes good plan. All aboard then, let's get this suicide mission started.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Alec and his men board the large galley, and depart the Port of Alexandria towards the certain doom and hellish sights that awaited them.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

EXT. On the ship's deck — day

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Ship Captain

Alright, so what be the plan of attack then?

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Julius

We must make our way to Athens. Once there we will head towards the center of the town. On top of a hill lies the Parthenon, this is the Temple of Athena. There we will find the Dagger of the Gods.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Alec

And what makes this dagger so special? And how do you know that Acheron hasn't already taken it?

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Julius

The Dagger of the Gods was forged by Hephaestus himself as a weapon for Zeus to fight his brother, Hades. It was given to Athena by Zeus to protect until the time came that it was needed. This is why I know Acheron does not have it, because Hades' and his kin can not step foot inside Athena's temples.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Alec

So how do we know that any of us are capable of wielding a weapon made for the gods themselves?

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Julius

It is said that anyone of Greek blood can wield the dagger. This was a fail safe made by Zeus so that his many half mortal children may wield it in a dire situation. Unfortunately, Acheron also knew of this too it appears; as he has subdued every Greek person, and thrown those with Zeus' blood into the Tantalus pit.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Sayid

(confused) So why don't the God's themselves come down and take care of this problem on their own?

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Julius

Acheron has somehow found a way to block the God's physical forms from stepping foot on mortal grounds.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Alec feelings of self-doubt began to return to him. He wandered off towards the bow of the ship, looking down at the dolphins and other sea creatures that were following the ship.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Sayid

(walking up from behind) Even the creatures of the sea travel beside you. Surely this is a good omen for us.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Alec

(doubting himself) Why me? Why do I have to lead this journey? I am not Greek, I am not even worthy of battle anymore.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Sayid

Stop saying such nonsense. You ARE the best warrior Egypt, no the whole world has ever seen. Even with god's on their side these demons stand no chance against such a mighty warrior as you.

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Alec

Stop saying such things. They are not true.

Sayid

All of these men follow you into uncertainty. If you were not as strong as you are why would they do such a foolish thing?

drw13 - on 08/29/2008

Alec

Maybe you are right. Thank you my friend, I don't know where I would be without you by my side.

INT. captains quarters — night

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008 5 versions.

Alec, Julius, and the Captain sit around a table in the dark room. Only the table is illuminated by a candle sitting on the corner of a map along with stacks of books sitting open on the table.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008 2 versions.

CAPtain

So where exactly do I set anchor?

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

Alec

We have to take extra precautions about being spotting, as we cannot wait for a New Moon. Since we'll be too visible at sea by moonlight, we can't land too close to occupied Athens. The closest shore to here will do.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008 2 versions.

The Captain plots out a course as Alec talks.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

Alec (CONT'D)

Now as an extra precaution,we should set anchor about half a league away from shore. We then can launch the rafts and row to shore.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

Julius

There are only six rafts, will we have room?

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

ALEC

We only have six score men, give or take. It will be crowded but I'm sure we can manage ten men per raft.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

CAPTAIN

(confused) Why so few men? This is certainly a matter of utmost urgency, is it not?

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

Alec

Many died in the battle in Alexandria. The majority of who is left has been ordered to stay back in defense of Egypt. I have full trust in Julius, but not many back home fully understand his plan. Most of our men are volunteers, but most have seen battle already.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008 2 versions.

Julius

Do you know much of what's happened in Europe?

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

Captain

I took a shipload of refugees from Thebes to Alexandria just weeks ago. They said dark creatures would completely level one city, and move on to the next. They didn't even stay to defend their captured cities, as nearly everyone had been slaughtered.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

Alec

Hopefully that means there won't be anything holding us back in Athens.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

The Captain does some calculations with his hands.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

Captain

If weather holds up it looks like we should be on the shores of Greece by midnight tomorrow. You all should get some sleep.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

EXT. Ship's Deck — Day

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

It is midday and sunny. There are many small islands in the distance, and seagulls can be heard, indicating that the ship was close to Greece. All sixty of the soldiers from Giza are assembled on the ship's deck. Alec is standing in front of them on a crate.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

Alec

(shouting) By midnight tonight, we will drop anchor off the shore of Greece, around five leagues from Athens.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

Alec jumps down and walks over to one of the wooden rafts at the edge of the deck.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

Alec (CONT'D)

You will split up into six groups of ten and assign four rowers to each raft. We will have to then hike quickly, but silently to Athens and get the dagger before sunrise. I will hold the dagger while we make our way back to Egypt. If anything happens to me, the dagger is your first priority.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008 2 versions.

Soldier

We barely qualify as a scouting group, how will we take on an entire army?

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

There is a murmur among the crowd.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

Alec

(confident) Our goal is to make sure the dagger exists, and procure it. Then we may send in the full might of the Egyptian army.

INT. Ship's lower deck — Night

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

The men are pouring into a storage room in the ship. There are candle's lit on the walls, and the men begin searching the backs and racks for their gear. Alec and Julius come down the steps.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008 4 versions.

Julius

Quiet!

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008 3 versions.

The men stop and stare at Alec.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008 2 versions.

Julius (CONT'D)

(Now quietly) The Captain has spotted land. Blow out all of the candles save for one.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008 2 versions.

The men comply and the room becomes very dim. Alec walks up to the men to be heard better.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008 2 versions.

Alec

(quietly) Okay, be as silent as possible from here on out. Full moon was last night, and we will be operating in bright conditions. Keep your weapons sheathed and cover any bright, exposed metal that will make you visible. Leave any jewelry behind.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

Everyone continues quietly. Some are tearing up bags and wrapping the burlap around their feet, and anything that will make a noise. Sayid, already prepared, walks up to Alec.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008 2 versions.

Alec (CONT'D)

I think we actually have a chance at this. I thank you for not giving up on me.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

EXT. On the ship, anchored offshore — Night

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

It is midnight, and the skies are clear over the ocean. Distant storm clouds can be seen over Greece. The men on deck lever their rafts into the water with their oars. Alec, Sayid, and Julius are with the Captain.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

Julius

(to the Captain) It's good to see you again. Thank you for your services once again.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

Alec

It's been a big help. We hope to meet up with you again at midnight, tomorrow on the shore.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

Captain

Best of luck to you. I know I'll be seeing you soon.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

The three launched the last raft on the boat, and climbed down. The six rafts rowed carefully towards shore.

MikeGoode - on 08/29/2008

Sayid

(shocked) What...What is all this?

drw13 - on 08/31/2008 2 versions.

As the raft approached the shore, the horrific world that awaited them could be seen clearly. There were fires spread across the land, providing the only lights visible. Land as far as the eye could see was as black as a void. Everything had been covered in soot and ash, killing every living thing underneath. The once vibrant trees were now only husks, bearing no fruit or leaves. As Alec and company set foot onto the land their feet sank into the hot ground. Their destination was clearly visible even from so far away, it was the largest and brightest fire. It illuminated the sky with an eerie red tone, letting all those within sight know of the terror that awaited them.

drw13 - on 08/31/2008 2 versions.

Alec

(concerned) Everyone stick together, we don't know what surprises this land has in store. Watch each others backs and they will watch yours.

drw13 - on 08/31/2008

As the men walk forward a group of them are quickly sucked into the ground by some sort of hellish sinkhole.

drw13 - on 08/31/2008

Alec (CONT'D)

(worried) Hurry grab onto them! Pull them out!

drw13 - on 08/31/2008

Julius

Quickly before they are sucked in and gone forever!

drw13 - on 08/31/2008

Alec and the rest of the men are swiftly able to grab onto the sinking men and save all but two. One was sucked into the abyss and another was pulled in trying to save him.

drw13 - on 08/31/2008

EXT. Barren Wastelands, Halfway to Athens — Night

drw13 - on 08/31/2008

A pillar of flames bursts from the ground. This was no ordinary flame though, it gave off no heat except to those caught inside it. It was as if it saved all of its energy to incinerate whomever was unlucky enough to be where it spawned. Alec can do nothing but watch as three of his men are quickly reduced to ash. The men are swallowed by the flame so quickly that they did not even have time to scream.

drw13 - on 08/31/2008 3 versions.

Julius

(to everyone) You must be more aware of your surroundings, open not only your eyes but all of your senses if you wish to survive long enough to see your families again.

drw13 - on 08/31/2008 2 versions.

EXT. Athens Greece in Ruins — Night

drw13 - on 08/31/2008

None of the men can muster words at what they see. Acheron had burned down just about every building and built houses of fire and volcanic rock in their place. Screams of terror were all that could be heard emanating from most buildings especially a large prison like structure that looked like a bastard child of Greek and Underworld design. The lone beacon of sanity is a building that sits atop a hill in the center of town, the Temple of Athena. It is the lone object unspoiled by the spawn of Hades.

drw13 - on 08/31/2008 2 versions.

Julius

(silently) We must hurry, there is a cave at the backside of the hill that will lead up inside the temple, that should provide the least amount of trouble.

drw13 - on 08/31/2008

Alec

Everyone be prepared to draw your weapons at any moment. There will surely be just as many surprises here as there was out there.

drw13 - on 08/31/2008

Alec and his men silently follow Julius towards their goal. The men are visibly shaken and must struggle to keep themselves from trembling while holding onto the hilts of their swords.

drw13 - on 08/31/2008 3 versions.

Sayid

(whispering) Something is not right, where are all the demons? We have been traveling for hours and yet to have seen a single one. Surely they know of this dagger, but there appears to be no one around to defend it.

drw13 - on 08/31/2008

Alec

(whispering) Yes, it is quiet odd. But the feeling here is much different. Even the landscape is not the same, the trees have leaves and the ash is not nearly as thick.

drw13 - on 08/31/2008

Julius

It is the presence of Athena's Temple. It prevents Acheron from fully converting the land, it is by her presence alone that the trees still grow.

drw13 - on 08/31/2008

Alec

(astonished)The Temple alone has that kind of power?

drw13 - on 08/31/2008

Julius

No, this kind of power is that of a god. Athena must be awaiting us in the temple.

drw13 - on 08/31/2008

Sayid

Wait, I can sense the presence of something....

drw13 - on 08/31/2008 3 versions.

A tingle of fear rides up Alec's spine. A gust of wind blows through the darkened trees. In place of the usual rustle of leaves, was a high pitch roar. Alec glances up at the trees just in time to see the red demonic eyes glowing above them inside the collection of leaves. With no time to react, the demon's burst out from the trees onto the unsuspecting men below.
