21 year old Kevin Thompson is a patient at Hawthorne Mental Health Institute during the McCarthy era. He has been placed there by his family because he's gay. He grows more distressed every day as aggressive treatments torment him physically but also strip away his memories. Kevin becomes more reluctant to receive treatment because his memories are his only source of happiness.

(looks at Julian) Would you like Julian to work with you? (Kevin nods yes) Okay you two can go once he gets his medication.

(He grabs Kevin's wrist)

Kevin is lazily places oranges in a wooden crate. His eyes are dull, the color has left his face. Julian struggles to pick an orange and ends up fumbling with it as the orange releases from the branch. Kevin stares at him emotionless.
Several patients dispersed around the courtyard pruning shrubs, cutting grass, and cleaning windows.
