Recently, I went to Big Bear. This trip made me realize many things. While in the car heading there, the air got a lot colder. Initially that was all I thought it was but after getting out of the car, I noticed that the air was fresher a ton compared to the air I was used to in Los Angeles. At that moment, I thought about how sad it was that my definition of "fresh air" was Los Angeles air which is filled with pollution. From then on, I started being more considerate of all the pollution I was creating in hopes that one day, my contribution to lessen pollution had an effect. The main thing that reduced pollution for me was the reduced usage of the car for short distance travels. Another thing I noticed while at Big Bear was how small and close the community there was. There was only one high school at Big Bear and I believe the same goes for the elementary and middle school. This means that if you lived in Big Bear and went to school there, chances are you will be going to school with the same people for quite a while. When we took a pit stop and went to McDonalds at Big Bear Village, the teenage register worker there had friends come in and greet him casually. The community at Big Bear Village is tighter because every child knows each other so families are usually more associated with each other than at a city where only some people get to know only their neighbors. After our one night stay at Big Bear, our neighbors from the cabin next door came over and greeted us as we were leaving and were very kind. This shows how close the community there is and I feel like those neighbors are the ones that would get out of their way to help out a neighbor in need. We also went to a restaurant at Big Bear in the morning for Breakfast and there was a warm friendly vibe in the restaurant due to the familiarity everyone in there has as I believe many of them are regulars there. While leaving Big Bear and descending fro the mountain roads, the air started getting warm and less fresh, it felt very dirty initially after entering the freeways again but after a while, it was normal again. The amount of trees and nature that surrounds Big Bear despite it being a mountain is incredible. The community there works together to prevent the destruction of the trees there. The Big Bear areas are also very clean, there was no littering anywhere. Big bear had taught me alot.
