New Jersey - 1985. Kris and Dave, undercover FBI agents, have spent the last two years infiltrating the Dragon's Scales: a powerful Hong Kong crime syndicate headed by a man known only as The Smoking Dragon. They've risen through the ranks, gained the trust of gang leaders, and are just about to spring the trap that will put The Smoking Dragon away for good.
Kris and Dave aren't just partners in the field, they're high school sweethearts planning to marry after this operation - and this gave their chops-busting superior officer, Captain Tanner, a brilliant idea: hold a fake gangland wedding for his secret agents to lure The Smoking Dragon stateside - where he can be arrested !
The fake big day arrives and seems promising: all of the leaders of the gang have turned out to celebrate the marriage. But things go horribly awry when one of the agents (the best man!) accidentally blows the cover of the operation. A deadly firefight erupts in the chapel, leaving many dead on both sides - including Dave, shotgunned by The Dragon in front of Kris.
Because they nabbed a few low-level Scales, the department celebrates the bust, but Kris knows it's a hollow victory. Hamstrung by red tape and frustrated at Tanner's unwillingness to move on The Dragon, Kris turns in her badge and gun, vowing to avenge her fiance's death and take The Dragon down on her own.
But The Dragon's got his own vengeance in mind. He kidnaps Kris' adorable niece, offering to return her only in exchange for Kris. Now, Kris has to get to Hong Kong and get her niece back.
Kris assembles a crack team of mercenaries - martial arts expert Lee, crack computer hacker Cody, weapons specialist Ken, and muscle-for-hire Zhang - but the Dragon's eyes are everywhere. And Kris has to put her trust in Lee, a love and colleague from her past who has since turned into a rogue mercenary.
As Kris gets closer to the Dragon, she uncovers startling mysteries - did somebody set the fake wedding up to fail? Is the Dragon working with someone inside the FBI? Can Kris trust Lee - and can she trust herself not to fall in love with him?
It's a hard road to the Dragon's lair - one paved with surprise ninja attacks, speedboat-and-helicopter chases, BMX bike action, and lots of explosives - is Kris ready for the challenges ahead of her? Can one woman, even with a little help from her friends, possibly bring down the Smoking Dragon?

How can a road be hard if it is paved with ninja attacks, speedboat and helicopter chases, BMX action, explosives (dare I say Hydro Munitions!), and rogue cops? That sounds like a pretty ACTION-FILLED and EXCITING road, if you ask me. — brad, two years ago
I agree. I think this movie could be a lot worse! I just might have to do something about that... — Erock, two years ago
Basic question -- why do the Dragon's Scales want to attend Kris and Dave's wedding? I think I smell some cognitive egocentricity! — claire, two years ago
I think this story needs some kind of 'genesis story': telling, however quickly, how Kris and Dave became the badasses that I'm sure they are. Maybe stuff a wordless story in the opening titles that shows the young couple as zit-faced middle schoolers compelled to take down the chain-smoking cafateria lady for using last year's randy rations of 'meat product' for the day's Asian Medley meal. — hamfist, a year ago
