Come on Mike, you know how degrading that is? I mean I don’t even write I proofread! You told me if I worked hard you’d get me onto a hit series and I’ll eventually be looked at as a screenwriter and I’d be able to work on real movies. I mean what if I refuse?

JACK swings open the door to MICHAEL ROLFSTEIN’S office, his agent. He is out of breathe and looking scraggly. He quickly sits down and attempts to straighten up. ROLFSTEIN continues to look down at the script he is reading and does not acknowledge Jack’s presence the least bit. When he finishes the last page he clears his throat, looks at the clock, and then at JACK who is sitting before him searching for an excuse.

An alarm clock RINGING LOUDLY as the camera makes its way to the bedside. It wakes up a disgruntled and very different in appearance JACK GALLOWS. He has longer hair and seems to be as much of a mess as his apartment is. Dirty clothes and dishes are everywhere. Piles of what appears to be scripts or story ideas are stacked almost 3 feet tall. He rolls over and looks at his clock which reads 9:45 AM.

Narrator (Jack Gallows)
They say God talks to you in many ways. He can be yelling at you, screaming right in your face, but you’ll never hear him. It could be through small acts of fortune, what you’d call luck or maybe even rectitude you feel was well deserved. But the Devil, well the Devil is different. It takes but a whisper for you to hear him. I guess because it is easier to hear something if your listening for it. Well, at least that was my experience… Maybe we should go back to the beginning, the very start of what was to become the clusterfuck I call my life. The day I sold my soul…

JACK GALLOWS is standing on the ledge of a balcony with a bottle of whiskey in his hand staring down at the streets of LA. His hair is wet from the rain, but it doesn’t seem to be bothering him the least bit. With a look of bewilderment and amusement, his foot slips, but he quickly regains his balance and LAUGHS. He appears to be heavily under the influence and apparently on the edge. As the camera zooms in the NARRATOR begins. The camera getting closer, leaving only part of his face visible, you SEE the city lights reflecting off his eyes. Flashing lights, buildings, and NOISE filter in. He smiles slightly; knowing that everything he wanted was given to him in exchange for everything he needed.

The camera zooms into an open door in the penthouse of a beautiful hotel. The floor is littered with women’s clothing, bottles of alcohol, and an arrangement of other things. The doors to the balcony are open as THUNDER and LIGHTING are CRASHING. A man wearing a tattered tuxedo becomes VISIBLE.
