Int. HOSPITAL Room - 7 a.m.

CHRIS, a seven year old boy, who has cancer, lays on the hospital bed, with his mom and doctor standing next to him. They are talking about what stage cancer CHRIS has. CHRIS hears the conversation.

DR. YORK

Ma'am, your son has stage 2 cancer. In stage 2 cancer, the cancer spreads throughout the body and to the nearest lymph nodes.

MRS. SMITH

Oh my. What should I do? Can't you do anything to stop this cancer, DR.YORK?

DR. YORK

No ma'am, that's not how this process works. There is no cure for cancer. At least not yet.

MRS. SMITH stumbles back into the chair behind her. She puts her hand on her face and states to cry. CHRIS sees he mother crying and gets out of the bed and walks to her.

Mommy, what's wrong? Why are you crying?

Oh honey. I'm sorry. Mommy is okay.

They pick up their things and walk out the hospital.

MRS. SMITH unlocks the car doors and opens the back door to let CHRIS in. She straps him in and closes the door. Then she gets into the front seat of the car and starts the engine.

Well we are going to make the best of it. He his going to be an out patient. The doctor will be visiting with him at home. He's still a kid. After I leave here I'm taking him for ice cream.
