A fiesta description

By owen:

I imagine a bare room that looks like it could once have been a church hall lit by patchy fluorescent lighting. It is full of people, dressed in normal street clothes. A lot of the people seem almost embarrassed to be there. Some people begin to undress and the rest follow. Under their clothes they are all dressed up to the neck in these weird body suits...

...The suits are made from a material that looks like skin, but has a more gelatinous appearance. It is very slightly translucent and copper wires can be seen embedded just under the surface of the material, like arteries. The suits themselves are patched together, held together in places with duct tape. The fiesta organiser JOANNA climbs onto the rough stage at the front of the hall and begins to speak. She is explaining what is going to happen. Everyone turns to listen. They are nervous and excited and are fidgeting and shuffling and looking at each other and there are the usual coughs and noises that people make. Joanna asks them to lie down and put their masks on. The masks are featureless and cover the whole head. In contrast to the suits the masks are in much better condition and the area that covers the face is made from a different hi gloss material, that doesn't entirely obscure the face, but does reflect the surroundings to a large extent. There is an audible buzz in the air.

Joanna switches on the feed. The whole room is instantly silent and the people in the room stiffen all at once. Suddenly it looks more like a hospital or morgue than a church hall. The sickly light from the the buzzing fluorescent tubes bounces of the slightly green tinged suits. Then one by one, the visors flicker into life and the room is filled with colour. Joanna and her assistant walk through the rows of people, stopping here and there to adjust the masks. The people start to twitch as the simulation kicks in. Joanna looks around at all the people and we get a sense of her loneliness in the real world. She puts on her mask and we get a final indistinct look at her face before the screen fills with the light.
