Previous skit had both mother and daughter leaving hotel. This script has the update of just the mother leaving. Mother, would be the lady with the car. The rest of the skit tries to incorporate all of the stories back to Ray's goodness and giving spirit, without losing the audience that may not have seen the first skit.

Judge

Well, seems like the storm is going to end this morning. Most of the roads are opening up and people are making their way to their destinations. It has been a really interesting few weeks here! And like usual, they really enjoyed their stay.

Cowps - on 11/02/2010

Ray comes out of the door with the mother from the previous skit, with the car. They talk near the door, and Judge quarter turns to have a listen.

Ray

Well, it looks like the roads are clear enough to take that Boxter home.

Cowps - on 12/21/2010 2 versions.

Mother

I should take it back to Ouseecoupoonki! (they both laugh as if they are the only ones with secret knowledge. She turns back her attention on Ray) Oh Mr Minder, I don't know how to thank you. Had you not had my car removed, the plows would have certainly buried my car!

Cowps - on 12/21/2010 2 versions.

Ray

Well, I have seen it happen before. Just ask Judge over there. (Waves at Judge) Hey Judge, remember the winter of 98 when you had to dig out your car parked here?

Cowps - on 11/02/2010

Judge

Oh yeah..(smiling along with the gesture) ...sure do! (turning to the audience, a bit embarrassed, holding his head in his hand) Jeesh! Do I remember....

RaY

OH, IT IS A GEM OF A DISH! A RECIPE THAT HAS BEEN IN THE FAMILY FOR GENERATIONS.

Cowps - on 12/21/2010 3 versions.

Ray looks around as if not to be noticed by anyone....like a secret hand off of spy material, but obvious enough for the audience.

Cowps - on 12/21/2010 2 versions.

Ray (CONT'D)

(reaching into his pocket) Well, I think it will survive many more generations to come. (hands a piece paper to the mother)

Mother

(stating loudly) Is this the recipe?

Cowps - on 12/21/2010 2 versions.

Cowps - on 11/02/2010

Judge

Hey Mr. M, I think the storm is clearing....should be a nice day.

Cowps - on 11/02/2010

Ray

Yes, it looks like the sun is going to break through. But I wouldn't call it a nice day. All these great customers are going on to their desitinations...(in a reminiscent tone)it is kind of sad in a way..... (digresses) but I am glad to have been able to help them out.

Cowps - on 12/21/2010 2 versions.

Judge

Yes, Mr. M, you certainly went all out this time. Never seen so many happy people stuck in a storm.

Cowps - on 11/02/2010

Ray

(Focuses on Judge) People have all sorts of storms in their lives. Many are much worse than a snowstorm. (with a hand on Judge's shoulder) But I believe that we have been given an opportunity to act as a shelter for others in more ways than one. I know that is the way my dad viewed this hotel.

Judge checks his watch

Cowps - on 11/02/2010

judge

Well, I have to get in to make sure the bags are ready in the lobby to be taken out.

Cowps - on 11/02/2010

ray

OK Judge...I will see you later.

Cowps - on 11/02/2010

Judge goes into the hotel, but holds the door for Elijah. Elijah asks Judge a question and Judge points in Ray's direction. Elijah, who is visibly cleaned up in a suit and tie, and not recognizable, approaches Ray at center stage.

EliJah

Mr Minder?

Cowps - on 11/02/2010

Ray

Yes....you can call me Ray. (does not recognize Elijah) Can I help you?

Cowps - on 11/02/2010

Elijah

It's me, Elijah. You helped me out on occasion when I was down on my luck.

Cowps - on 12/21/2010 2 versions.

Ray barely recognizes him but now shakes his hand even harder, and even more glad to see him and in such good shape.

Cowps - on 12/21/2010 2 versions.

ray

Yes...of course. But I hardly recognized you! You look, look...ah...

Cowps - on 11/02/2010

Elijah

Cleaned up? Shaven? Renewed?

Cowps - on 11/02/2010 2 versions.

ray

Well...yes, I guess you could say that...yes "Renewed" and it looks like you are doing well?

Cowps - on 11/02/2010 2 versions.

elijah

Better than well. Thanks to your generosity, I got a job.

Cowps - on 11/02/2010

ray

Well, I dont recall helping you find a job or...(Elijah politely interrupts)

Cowps - on 11/02/2010

elijah

..oh but you did help me. I wanted to thank you for allowing me to stay at your hotel when I was trying to get back on my feet. You were so gracious. And I had a hard time accepting your generosity because of my pride. But you really helped me out. The morning after you brought me in that last time, when I was warming myself by that can (motions towards the fire can on stage) I had a job interview the next day. The suit that your dad used to wear, that you gave me made all the difference in the world, because I felt confident, and I felt important, and well...I got the job.

Cowps - on 12/21/2010 3 versions.

ray

Well congratulations!

Cowps - on 11/02/2010

elijah

Well,I wanted to repay you somehow....(pulls out his wallet)

Cowps - on 11/02/2010

ray

(indignant to not taking his money) No, I won't accept any money. I helped you out, so you just turn the favor to someone else in need...pay it forward.

Cowps - on 12/21/2010 2 versions.

Elijah

Actually, (still holding his wallet) I wanted to give you something that I hope will be more valuable than money. (pulls out a business card and hands it to Ray) You see, the company that hired me is interested in old, historical buildings. they come in and partner with the owners, restore it and market it as a local landmark. I told the president of the company about my story here. And the amazing thing is, he knew your father.

Cowps - on 11/02/2010

ray

Really? What was his name?

Cowps - on 11/02/2010

EliJah

John Stokes, but I don't think that would ring a bell. You see he stopped by here a long time ago when he was having some of his own problems. He fell in love with the way the hotel was run and started his own business in restoration.

Cowps - on 11/02/2010

Ray

Really!

Cowps - on 11/02/2010

elijah

Yes, really! He mentioned that he felt at home, and was a changed person for staying here. Something about your dad's generosity changed him. He would like to meet with you and discuss a business proposition.

Cowps - on 11/02/2010

Ray is visibly touched. They both continue to talk and make their way back towards the hotel. Judge comes out of the hotel and meets them

Cowps - on 11/02/2010

Ray

Hey Judge,...you remember Elijah?

Cowps - on 11/02/2010

Judge does not, but treats him like royalty.

Cowps - on 11/02/2010

Judge

Yes, Mr Elijah ...nice to see you again. In town for business again? Would you like me to show you around?

Cowps - on 11/02/2010

Elijah

No thanks Judge... (glances back at the fire can) ...I think I know this place pretty well.

Cowps - on 12/21/2010 2 versions.

Judge is visibly confused, and looks at the fire can. Ray and Elijah walk back into the hotel. Judge suddenly makes the connection, and he is completely floored.

Cowps - on 12/21/2010 2 versions.

Judge makes his way out to the center stage and engages the audience.

Cowps - on 11/02/2010

judge

Wow. Can you believe that? The bum... (changes his tone) ...that guy, Elijah! He is a changed man. (looks back at the hotel) What is it about this place? It really is special. ( Judge gets sentimental) Yes...this place is special. I can't help think about how special this place is, especially this time of year. Long ago, my family and I were caught in a snow storm...very much like this one. And it was Christmas eve. We were SO close to home, but all the roads were closed and we had to stay at a hotel. I never forgot it. The man that owned the hotel knew that me and my sister would miss out on Christmas morning and that he went out in the middle of the night and got us presents...he even got a tree and all the decorations. I relive that morning every Christmas in my mind. It's not difficult to do so,(pauses in reflection) because THIS was that hotel we stayed at and Ray's dad was the hotel owner that made that Christmas so special. He opened the doors of his heart to make the Christmas memorable for me and my family. Now, I open those doors there, for people to make a memory too.
