Carter Academy junior Maria Aguinaldo is brilliant, but unsure of her own identity. She uses the novel she's writing as an escape into another world, one in which she becomes strong and certain.

But one day, she gains the superhuman abilities that she'd granted her book character.

As the events of her novel come to life, Maria races to reach the novel's completion - but discovers that, by the end of the novel, one of her friends will die.
