Int. tommy's pizza parlor- St. louis, missouri (9:56 pm)

an obvious dating couple sit at one table while a larger young female (Zana) sits at the bar. an attractive male waitor(Daniel) is chatting with her.

daniel

"Well, i don't think it's such a bad thing, ya know? Getting off the debate team could ensure you spending more time here."

Daniel smiles and continues cleaning off the counter with a red and white towel.

Daniel (CONT'D)

"Okay, lovebirds, i think it's time for you two to head out."

Zana squirms in her seat, clearly uncomfortable with herself and lack of a relationship.

Zana

continuing conversation- " I dunno. I've been quitting a lot of things recently, it seems like. My parents are becoming a little bit suspicious of my choices."

daniel

"What, like, they think you're on drugs or something?" (he laughs and continues to clean up the parlor)

Zana

"I guess. I dunno why i've been feeling this way. It's like i'm being pushed by myself. When there's nothing to push. I'm just battling with myself. Trying to hold on to who i know is really me, but the true me keeps changing. Keeps molding into someone else. I feel more courageous, and i'm scared about it."

"Have you talked to anyone about this?"

"I dunno, do pebbles pay for your soda?"

"Well good greif, Zana, i didn't want you to get all emotional and crap on me."

Daniel starts sweeping the floors.

"I'm sorry. You should know by now how emotional i can be. You want me to get the chairs?"

daniel

"Oh, yeah... I definately know. And yes, if you don't mind, i'm ready to get outta here.''

Daniel smiles at Zana, but Zana seems deep in thought. She begins to lift the chairs and set them on the tables upside down.

Daniel (CONT'D)

"Look. I'm not trying to put you down or anything. I don't understand what's going on with you right now, but I can assure you it'll blow over. We've been best friends since eighth grade. It's our senior year. I just don't want anything to get in the way of the fast fun times we're supposed to be having."
